Heterodyne is a project where roads and other journeys are scored with original site-specific audio compositions. Through a collaborative process, Fiona Hallinan researches and selects specific locations, then invites composers to create sound pieces for them.
Heterodyne sets out to create an anthology of site-specific audio pieces for journeys throughout Ireland and internationally. These scores are stored and made accessible through a location-based mobile application.
Three original scores for three separate locations have been created. They are a score for the Military Road by five composers, Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh, Cian Nugent, Chequerboard, Brendan Jenkinson and Davy Kehoe. A score for a ferry crossing of the Bosphorus in Istanbul by Peter Broderick. The most recent score is a composition for the Peripherique, the ring road surrounding Paris, by Margie Jean Lewis and Brian Walsh.
